Some of our teachers are holding classes our homes and a few other locations in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach. Check this page for classes available now and to find out when we are up and running in a store location with a full class schedule!

Kids’ Crochet  KC059

Kids’ Crochet Camp for Beginners  KC013

(Ages 8 & up — Level 1) Kids will enjoy learning to crochet with Jill’s kind and expert help. They will start with a simple chain necklace, and progress to learn single crochet as they are ready.

Kids’ Intermediate Crochet Camp  KC023

(Ages 8 & up — Level 2) Kids who know basic chain and single crochet can advance their skills with Jill’s expert help. They learn to crochet a hacky sack or a cute bandana and time permitting, may make a Tic-Tac-Toe bag, while learning half double, double and triple crochet. They will also learn how to read patterns! Intro to Machine Sewing 1  CC030

(Level 1) Learn the basics of machine sewing... Start by learning the different parts of your sewing machine, how to thread your machine and wind your bobbin, and how to pin your material together to prepare it for sewing. Learn about seam allowance, how to sew straight lines, curved lines, and how to pivot your work. And last learn how to zig-zag on and off the edge of your fabric for a finished edge. Use your new skills to make a Kleenex holder and/or eye glass holder you will be proud to use.

(Level 1 — Basic sewing machine experience required) Learn to draw with your regular sewing machine. Create beautiful works of art using your machine in a whole new way. Day one will begin with Di teaching the basics of free-motion embroidery. She will go through machine setup, best practices, tips, and tricks for smooth drawing with your machine, then work through the provided exercises so that you are ready to create your piece of Textile Art on day two of the workshop.

(Level 2) Learn to make this beautiful, intricately patterned, kimono style sweater with lacy sleeves and border. Teacup and Roses From a Paperback Book    CP046

(All Levels) This beautifully decorated teacup made from a recycled paperback book will make a lovely centerpiece for any tea party or celebration. The roses are crafted from book pages and other materials provided in the class. Instructional handouts and videos will also be available to class members. This teacup makes a wonderful gift for a tea loving friend.

Seagrass on Gourds   CP006

(Level 1) Natural materials coiled on and around the rims of gourds have always been a part of this wonderful art form. In this one-day workshop we will be working with seagrass, a glossy fragrant grass that blends beautifully with gourds. First a distressed dye application is applied to the gourd. Next, a basic weaving stitch will be taught along with techniques of adding grass and thread, hiding knots, wrapping and finishing. Finally the bowl is embellished with natural beads and shells.

Woven Soft Cover Sketch Book with Di Venter    CC005

(All Levels) Create a personalized soft-covered book that you can use as a journal, sketchbook, travel journal, or anything you like. We will create an eye-catching woven cover with bound edges and then use bookbinding techniques to add our paper signatures. You will learn all the tips and tricks required to successfully create a hand bound book. This class is suitable for anyone; no previous bookbinding experience is required. Sewing machine experience required. Eighteen sheets of 90-lb watercolour paper are included in your class fee.

Crazy Patch Embroidery (Spring)   RE322

(Level 2) In each Crazy Patch Embroidery class, a different set of stitches is taught that can be made into a “stitch page", added to your crazy patch, or to a special project. April is part one of a three session wall hanging/runner class that you will be able to finish before Halloween! April's block: the witch. Featuring wool felting and slow stitched “pieced” fabric as the background, she has a felt body with thread embroidery as part of her clothing, some decorative beaded accents that makes this character one-of-kind! May's block: the cat, which also has a felt body with a needle felted head, and a pieced background embellished with touches of embroidery. June's block: the skeleton. This block has a stripped, pieced background with an embroidered skeleton body and felt head and hat. It is embellished with Sadi and metallic threads including some basic embroidery stitches. Purchase the kits to get all the spooky goodies! 🧙‍♀️

Upcycled and Embellished Clothing   CC037

(All Levels) Whether it be a pair of pants, a flannel or even a skirt, watch how these garments transform as you add, alter and embellish. Learn how to use scraps of fabric, methods of layering, cutting away and raveling to create your own unique garment or purse! You can purchase a "stash kit" which will include a wide variety of fabrics from cottons to fancies, and laces and trims to further the inspiration of your soon-to-be original!

“Celebration” Recycled Book Cakes   CP047

(All Levels) Make this beautiful three-tiered cake from a used hardbound book. It will make a lovely centerpiece for any occasion or celebration. The flowers and candles are also crafted from recycled pages and other materials provided in the class and so easy to make. Instructional handouts and videos will also be available to class members. The cake would be a show-stopper table top for any wedding, birthday, or other celebration. Just choose your theme. Choose between the smaller All Occasion Cake (approximately 5.5" x 8") or the larger Special Occasion/Wedding Cake (approx. 9" x 11"). (Click on picture at right to see both cakes.)

Beginning Needle Tatting   CA040

(Level 1) Needle tatting is for you if you’ve tried shuttle tatting and discovered it’s not your cup of tea (the knot just won’t flip)! The knots are created on a long, skinny needle (no point) and then the thread is pulled through to create the ring or chain. Voila! No knot-flipping required! And the joy of it all is: it looks just like shuttle tatting and the same patterns can be used.

(Level 2 – Basic needle tatting skills required) Use your new-found needle tatting skills to make lovely ornaments. These ornaments can be free-hanging, mounted on a bag or clothing or even framed.

My Wedding Ring Quilt with Cecile Choi   QF006

(All Levels — Sewing machine and rotary cutting experience required) Using Cecile’s original pattern, you will learn a modern take on the traditional double wedding ring. Cecile’s version uses a variety of colors in the background, and the rings are all the same color, making it easy to see the shapes of the rings and the squares. Instead of the traditional curved piecing to create the wedding rings, she will teach you machine applique making it easier for both cutting and sewing!
